 Hair Bows

Hair bows became popular during the Victorian Era, during Queen Victoria’s reign from 1837 to 1901. But hair bows began to make their mark on fashion history during the Edwardian Era, during King Edward VII’s reign from 1901 to 1910.

During the Victorian Era, the aesthetics were simpler. Women seldom wore hair bows and when they did, these were usually black or another modest color. Back then, hair bows were subtle and small in size. All of these changed in the Edwardian Era, which was fanciful and decorative. Women started experimenting, wearing hair bows of different sizes and colors. Some teens-women even dared to wear very large hair bows, even when compared to today's standards! This is especially apparent among upperclass women, who indulged in luxurious hair bows both for themselves and for their little girls. Since then, hair bows have remained among the popular hair accessories for girls throughout the 20th Century.

Too cute to be true, hair bows have truly come back with a vengeance. But if you think it’s back to the good ol' prim and proper plain Janes with the plain hair bows, you’re thankfully wrong!

This year, it's all about being fun, quirky and free while still celebrating your femininity. Hair bows are no longer just cutesy baby items, big girls can wear them now too. Recently seen on the runways of Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Temperley and Luella, this renewed love for hair bows is a trend that must not be missed.

It's never easy to predict which trends are keepers and which are simply "flavor of the month." Hair bows may be hot right now, but tacky next season. At the end of the day, being fashionable is all in the way you carry yourself.

You've seen enough fashion-forward personalities looking quite fabulous in what would have been a tragic mess if worn by anyone else. Like, how adorable was the always-daring Lady Gaga when she wore a huge baby blue hair bow in one of her music videos? So heads up, backs straight, walk like you own the place, and leave everyone staring at your sweet new style.
